Fire Sprinkler System Breaks, Causing Damage to New Haven County Commercial Property

12/20/2018 (Permalink)

If you own a commercial building, having a sprinkler system installed is not an option.

For the safety of your employees and customers, fire sprinkler systems are required. In general, fire sprinkler systems function as designed however, on occasion, they malfunction or break and inadvertently deploy. This can be caused by a variety of reasons - from frozen pipes to a break in a pipe to a faulty sensor. The result when a sprinkler system deploys can be disastrous- with thousands of gallons of water flooding the building and saturating everything in its path.

SERVPRO of Milford-Orange-Stratford recently responded to a call from a Woodbridge commercial property in which the dry sprinkler system malfunctioned. There was standing water throughout the facility and the walls, ceilings and contents were saturated.

Upon arrival, our team set up generators and trailer mounted desiccants to the facility. High powered truck mounted water extractors were utilized to remove the thousands of gallons of water.

When the standing water had been eliminated, our crew set up containment and used dehumidifiers and air movers, as well as desiccants to complete the drying process. We then removed affected walls, ceilings and floors that were not salvageable. Antimicrobials were applied to properly disinfect and ensure that no secondary damage, such as mold, would occur.

In just 24 hours our team was successful in professionally stabilizing the loss and establishing a protocol and timeline for this flooded facility, which enabled the business to move forward.
